One of Manchester United's big problems this season has been forwards. In the summer transfer window they paid a fortune for Rasmus Hojlund, but his performances were unconvincing until recently when he started scoring goals in the Premier League. In addition, Marcus Rashford had a huge drop in level from the previous season, while Antony never lived up to expectations. Alejandro Garnacho was the only one who really made a difference, despite his youth.

At the same time, coach Erik Ten Hag decided to do without two other players: Jadon Sancho and Facundo Pellistri. The former was dropped from the squad due to a quarrel with the manager and then loaned to Borussia Dortmund. And the Uruguayan winger, with no opportunities in England, was loaned to Granada in Spain.

Another of the squad's strikers is Anthony Martial. He started the season as a priority for Ten Hag, but as the months went by he lost prominence, partly because of his poor performances and partly because of the injuries he suffered. In fact, he is currently unfit to play due to a groin problem.

Moreover, the French striker is under contract until June 30 and, according to reports, has no intention of renewing. That means he will leave as a free agent once the 2023/24 season ends. The Sun reports that his future may lie in France: AS Monaco, the club where he shone before joining Manchester United, and Olympique Marseille are the alternatives.

The Red Devils will need a replacement

Should Anthony Martial decide to leave this summer, Manchester United will have to find a forward to take his place. According to The Mirror, the one chosen by Erik Ten Hag is Brian Brobbey, a young Dutch player who has shone at Ajax since 2020. In that case, the manager would again choose a player he already managed in the Netherlands, as he did with Antony, Andre Onana, Sofyan Amrabat and Lisandro Martinez.
