Fabrizio Romano is arguably the most known football journalist in the world and one of the most reliable journalists available. He is mostly known for his coverages on transfer windows as teams look to sign new players every summer and winter. He reported Cristiano Ronaldo's move from Juventus to Manchester United in 2021. This coverage was not the most difficult for him to cover, even though there were rumors that the Portuguese striker was leaning toward Manchester City. The most difficult coverage he made was Lionel Messi's departure from FC Barcelona and his arrival at PSG in the summer of 2021. Romano said, "Most dramatic news I have covered? Leo Messi's departure from Barcelona. That story was crazy because believe me it was absolutely certain that Messi would renew his contract. The contract was ready, and Messi was in Barcelona in the morning to sign the contract, so everything was ready to sign the contract, and even the official announcement was scheduled for 8:00 pm by Barcelona." Then Romano talked about how it all changed out of nowhere.

Romano said, "Then I remember the feeling of what happened in the afternoon around 4:00 pm, when Messi met with President [Joan] Laporta, and they told him that they could not move forward because of Financial Fair Play and the only way was for him to leave the club. It was a crazy day." Messi and FC Barcelona then announced that they would part ways during a press conference that shocked the football world.

Messi then made the decision to join PSG a couple of days later, which surprised many. The Argentine icon played many years at FC Barcelona and even said in the past that he would retire there, which to many seemed realistic. His love for the Catalan club still exists, but Barcelona fans wished that he was able to stay.

Cristiano Ronaldo to Man City?

Many outlets, like Fabrizio Romano, rumored that Cristiano Ronaldo would join Manchester City after his time with Juventus in 2021. Ronaldo even admitted that Man City was interested in him but decided to return to Manchester United. Ronaldo said, "I was close to joining Manchester City in 2021. I was surprised — as they tried hard to sign me. But my heart, my history with Man United, Sir Alex Ferguson, made the difference. The heart was speaking loud in that moment.”
