Manchester United did not have a good first half of the 2023/24 season. They were quickly eliminated in the Carabao Cup against Newcastle in the round of 16, while in the Champions League they finished last in group A and didn't even make it to the Europa League. And in the Premier League things did not go much better for them: for now they are in seventh place in the standings with 32 points, 13 less than leaders Liverpool, and could be out of the qualification zone for international tournaments if Brighton & Hove Albion beat Wolverhampton next week.

With this scenario, it is not strange that the club's chiefs intend to renew the squad. They already let some players go during the January transfer window: Sergio Reguilón returned to Tottenham six months ahead of schedule, Donny Van de Beek went on loan to Eintracht Frankfurt and the same happened with Jadon Sancho to Borussia Dortmund.

But that is only part of the plan. In addition to getting rid of players, the Red Devils need to sign others to help raise the team's level. For coach Erik Ten Hag one of the priorities is the attack and that is why they have targeted Michael Olise. The player born in England but who represented France in some youth tournaments, has had a great performance at Crystal Palace this season, with 5 goals in 9 games.

That caught the attention of Manchester United, who according to ESPN are interested in signing him and for that they are even willing to offer a player in exchange: Aaron Wan-Bissaka. The right-back emerged from Crystal Palace and played there until 2019, when he was transferred to Old Trafford in exchange for more than $50 million. But his performances have been disappointing and so he could now be part of the negotiation.

It may not happen right now

Despite Manchester United's intention, Michael Olise's transfer might not be immediate. He signed a new contract with Crystal Palace a few months ago, until June 30, 2027, and the London team intend to keep him at least until the end of the season. Therefore, negotiations with the Red Devils are likely to be more successful next summer.
