Manchester United are in the midst of a squad renewal process. Although they are in the middle of the season and still have to continue competing in Premier League and FA Cup, the failures they have suffered during the second half of 2023 and the arrival of new owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe have made things change quickly.
That is why during the January transfer window many players will leave and others will be added to face the most demanding stage of the season. In fact, those changes have already begun: Sergio Reguilon returned to Tottenham despite the fact that his loan was until June 30, while Donny Van de Beek was loaned until the summer to Eintracht Frankfurt.
But that's not all. Reports indicate that other players could leave in the coming days. The most likely is Jadon Sancho, who has not played since August due to his public differences with coach Erik Ten Hag and was targeted by Borussia Dortmund. He could be joined by Anthony Martial, who received an offer from Fenerbahce of Turkey, and Facundo Pellistri, targeted by Villarreal.
At the same time, the Red Devils are looking to sign players to help raise the team's level, especially in attack. One of those targeted was Timo Werner, a German striker who had a disappointing experience at Chelsea between 2020 and 2022. Although his performance at RB Leipzig is now better, the fans still remember his failure in the Premier League and so they were not very happy to have him.
Manchester United's intention to sign Timo Werner was short-lived, as he is close to agreeing his arrival to another English team: Tottenham. According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, the German striker "has accepted Spurs proposal as he wants to return to the Premier League". Negotiations between the clubs are advanced and he could join on loan with an option to buy clause.
