Manchester United are one of the most important clubs not only in England, but in the world. For decades they have dominated European soccer and have had unforgettable teams, with stars like Bobby Charlton, George Best, Eric Cantona, Ruud Van Nistelrooy, Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney. That allowed them to win many Premier League and FA Cup titles, as well as 3 times the Champions League.

But that came to an end a decade ago, when Sir Alex Ferguson decided to end his successful spell of almost 30 years as manager of the team. Since then managers such as David Moyes, Louis Van Gaal, Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Erik Ten Hag have all passed through, but none of them have lived up to expectations. In fact, the Red Devils have not been crowned champions of England or Europe since Ferguson left.
And that can apparently be felt at the club. In an interview with BBC, Alexis Sanchez recounted details of his awful experience at Manchester United, where he arrived in 2018 for more than $50 million when Jose Mourinho was manager. "After my first training session, I came home and told my family and my agent: can't I break my contract and go back to Arsenal?" he assured.
The Chilean forward then explained: "In my opinion, Mourinho is one of the best coaches in the world because of the way he trains, the way he studies the videos and the way he does things. But then, within the group there was a strange feeling. You were in the team and then you were out. Sometimes I didn't play, then I played, then I didn't play and as a player you lose confidence, every player loses confidence. You know? It created an atmosphere that was not healthy."

Despite the fortune Manchester United paid for him, Alexis Sanchez barely spent a year and a half there, scoring 5 goals in 45 games and showing performances that were far from what he had previously had with Arsenal. After the 2018/19 season he was loaned to Inter and never returned to England.
