The 2023/24 season for Manchester United has been a failure. They had the expectation of competing for the main titles in England and Europe, but things did not go as expected. In the Champions League they finished last in Group A and did not even make it to the Europa League, while in the Carabao Cup they were eliminated in the round of 16.
That leaves them with only two objectives. One is the Premier League, where they are in eighth place in the standings, far behind leaders Liverpool and for now out of the qualification zone for international tournaments. And the other is the FA Cup, where they will debut this Monday in the round of 64 against Wigan.
With this scenario, it is no surprise that the chiefs are considering starting a squad renewal. Many players have been at the club for a long time and have not shown the performances expected of them, so perhaps it would be best to let them leave and instead hire others who come in with renewed energy.
Jadon Sancho is one such example. Manchester United paid $90 million for him in 2021, but his level has not lived up to expectations and, if that wasn't enough, he has been sidelined since August for a public quarrel with coach Erik Ten Hag. Borussia Dortmund are interested in having him back and the English side will probably agree to loan him out until the end of the season, although reports indicate that they will not include a buyout clause, so the winger will have to return to his parent club next summer.
In addition to Jadon Sancho, the Red Devils are also considering the sale of two other strikers: Anthony Martial and Facundo Pellistri. The French striker has not lived up to expectations and lost his place in the team, so he could accept the offer of Fenerbahce of Turkey and leave England after 9 years. And the Uruguayan winger, who has had little participation under Ten Hag, was targeted by Villarreal.
