While Man Utd paid $55 million for Onana, Newcastle can get a better goalie for free

The Red Devils have been making bad decisions lately, but this is the worst of them all.

Things are going badly for Manchester United this season. In the Premier League they are far behind leaders Arsenal and they are not even in the qualification zone for the main international tournaments, in the Champions League they are last in group A and in the Carabao Cup they were eliminated in the round of 16.

These failures are no coincidence. They have made bad decisions for many years and are now paying the consequences. In fact, during the last transfer window they made huge mistakes. They spent a lot of money to sign players whose performances have been disappointing, such as Rasmus Hojlund and Mason Mount. But their main problem is undoubtedly their goalkeeper.

The Red Devils paid more than $55 million to Inter to get André Onana, but he has made many mistakes that have complicated the team's plans, such as the two free-kick goals scored by Hakim Ziyech in the last Champions League match against Galatasaray.

This is even more absurd considering that Manchester United had a world-class goalkeeper until last season: David De Gea. The Spanish player had been at the club for a decade and was a guarantee, but coach Erik Ten Hag decided he needed another alternative and told him he would not be a priority. That is why De Gea left as a free agent.

Now he could return to the Premier League

Despite receiving offers from Saudi Arabia, David De Gea decided not to join any club during the last transfer window. However, he could now return to the Premier League to play for another club: Newcastle. The Magpies suffered the injury of their goalkeeper Nick Pope and are looking for a replacement. According to The Daily Mail, the Spanish player is one of the favorites. The advantage he has is that he is a free agent and can easily negotiate with any club. At the same time, Newcastle will not need to pay a cent for his transfer.
