The Red Devils are losing 2-0 against the Magpies in the Carabao Cup.

Last Sunday, after the heavy 3-0 defeat against Manchester City in the city derby, Manchester United fans managed to make the hashtag #TenHagOut become trending topic on X. Patience with the Dutch manager seems to have run out and the team shows no signs of improving in the near future.

And the problem has not only been poor performances: it has also been bad luck. The Red Devils have suffered injuries to several of their most important players during the season, such as Lisandro Martinez and Luke Shaw. But this Wednesday, in the Carabao Cup round of 16 match, something unexpected happened.

This time the injury that complicated Manchester United's plans was to a rival player. Four minutes into the first half, Newcastle coach Eddie Howe had to make the first change, as Matt Targett was injured. In his place Miguel Almiron came on and the lineup had some tactical changes, as Lewis Hall, who was playing left-back, moved forward to midfield.

This changed everything. At 28 minutes, Alejandro Garnacho lost the ball to Valentino Livramento. The right-back ran several yards until he reached the rival field and gave an assist to Almiron, who beat Diogo Dalot and shot with his left foot to score the opener. And that was not all, as moments later Hall captured a rebound and doubled the lead with a strong shot.

Ten Hag is in trouble

The patience of the fans at Old Trafford was already in short supply before the Newcastle goals, and then the situation was even worse. The Dutch coach needs to make changes after the break to revitalize the team. Manchester United's substitutes are Altay Bayindir, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Johnny Evans, Bruno Fernandes, Sofyan Amrabat, Scott McTominay, Christian Ekiksen, Marcus Rashford and Rasmus Hojlund.
