Manchester United's failures in recent seasons have multiple explanations. But one of the most obvious is the lousy signings they have made. They have spent a fortune on players who then had disappointing performances. In fact, many of them eventually left the club for much less money than they had cost.

The last transfer window was no exception. Coach Erik Ten Hag had the freedom to choose the signings, an opportunity he earned thanks to the good results he achieved during the 2022/23 season. But so far things have not turned out as expected. Players for whom they paid a lot of money, such as Mason Mount and Rasmus Hojlund, have fallen short of expectations.

Undoubtedly the clearest example of this is André Onana, who cost $55 million to leave Inter. But since his arrival at Old Trafford he has been responsible for more than one opposing goal. His worst performance was last week, when he missed two of Galatasaray's three goals and prevented Manchester United from getting a key victory in the Champions League.

That is why the English side are starting to look for other alternatives. According to Footmercato, the chosen one is Mike Maignan. The 28-year-old French goalkeeper has played for AC Milan since 2021, when he arrived after several seasons at Lille. In addition, he has earned 13 caps for the French national team.

They are not the only ones interested in him

In addition to Manchester United, other European giants have targeted Maignan thanks to his good performances in Serie A: Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich. His contract with AC Milan expires on June 30, 2026 and is worth $75 million.
