Manchester United want to return to being one of the top sides in England and Europe. The last few years have not been easy for them, as since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013 they have not been able to win the Premier League or the Champions League, and have barely competed in a few FA Cups and UEFA Europa League.

Nevertheless, the team's performance during the 2022/23 season was good. Manager Erik Ten Hag gradually got the players to understand his message and, although they were not at Manchester City's level, they came pretty close. But now they know that this will not be enough, they will have to raise the level and compete in the main tournaments.

To do so, they are working on recruiting stars to improve the team. The first to arrive was midfielder Mason Mount, for whom they paid $65 million to Chelsea. Then they added defender Johnny Evans, who left Leicester City as a free agent. And now they have reached an agreement for the third: Andre Onana.

The 27-year-old Cameroonian goalkeeper was one of the stars during the last season at Inter. He arrived there from Ajax in 2022 and played 41 games. In addition, he was a key player in the team that reached the Champions League final against Manchester City. Now, the Red Devils managed to sign him until 2028 in exchange for $55 million.

One of the most expensive in history

With his arrival at Manchester United, Onana became the fourth most valuable goalkeeper in soccer. He is only surpassed by Gianluigi Buffon, for whom Juventus paid $57 million to Parma, Alisson, who moved from Roma to Liverpool for $63 million, and Kepa Arrizabalaga, who Athletic Bilbao sold to Chelsea for $80 million.
