Just a few hours ago, Marca newspaper claimed that Sergio Ramos' arrival at Al-Ittihad was imminent. The Spanish player had rejected offers from Brazil, Argentina, the United States and Turkey, and seemed determined to accept the multi-million dollar offer from Saudi Arabia, where he would be reunited with a former Real Madrid teammate, Karim Benzema.

However, everything changed. Now reports indicate that Ramos put Al-Ittihad on hold, as an unexpected opportunity appeared at the last minute: Sevilla. The Spanish side had rejected the defender on more than one occasion during the summer, and even sporting director Victor Orta had said, "In the squad model we are currently running, there is no possibility of him playing here this season."

But Sevilla's poor start to the 2023/24 season, in which they lost all 3 games they played, and the low level of the center-backs, led coach José Luis Mendilibar to request the signing of a new defender. The Spanish side still have room to register one more player and on Monday they must present the list for the Champions League.

And Ramos, being a free agent, still has time to join despite the fact that the transfer window closed last Friday. Moreover, the possibility of Sevilla interests him for a reason that has nothing to do with soccer: since his departure from Paris Saint-Germain he is living in that Spanish city, so it will be much more convenient for his family to stay there and avoid a move to Saudi Arabia.

He shone there

If the contract is confirmed, Sergio Ramos will fulfill his desire to return to the club where he was born. He played for Sevilla between 2003 and 2005. There he played 50 games, scored 3 goals and showed a great level. This aroused the interest of Real Madrid, who signed him for the 2005/06 season and he stayed there for 15 years.
