The Tottenham Hotspur's sports project has taken an unexpected turn with the arrival of Australian coach Ange Postecoglou, leading to a series of changes in the squad. Among them is the decision to part ways with Clement Lenglet, who will have to return to Barcelona after his loan year.
The London club has officially confirmed Lenglet's departure, along with the exits of Arnaut Danjuma, who will return to Villarreal, and Lucas Moura, whose contract has expired. "We can confirm the departures of Arnaut Danjuma and Clement Lenglet following the conclusion of their loan spells," stated the press release issued by Tottenham.
This decision now poses a problem for Barcelona in terms of meeting their viability plan and balancing their wage bill, as they had planned to sell the Frenchman to Tottenham in the coming days. However, with his return, Lenglet will once again become a Barcelona player, with a contract valid until 2026.
Lenglet's return to Barcelona comes after a season in which he failed to stand out at Tottenham, which has affected his market value. It is likely that he will have to go out on loan again, and it is unlikely that his new club will cover his full salary.
Barcelona's desire is still to recoup a portion of the 36 million EUR invested in the defender in the summer of 2018. However, currently, his market value does not exceed 20 million EUR. As for a potential negotiation with Tottenham, both parties will need to come to an agreement, as Barcelona has set their price at 12 million EUR, while the London club has offered around 8 million EUR.
