Real Madrid has officially announced the signing of José Luis Mato as their new forward for the upcoming season. The Spanish player arrives on a one-season loan from Espanyol in Barcelona, a team that recently got relegated to the second tier of Spanish football.
The agreement between Real Madrid and Espanyol includes a purchase option at the end of the loan, providing the white club with the possibility of securing Joselu's services permanently.
At 33 years old, Joselu has experience with the Madrid club, having been part of Castilla for two seasons. During that period, he stood out as the top scorer in the 2011-2012 season, netting 24 goals. Subsequently, he was compelled to seek new horizons due to stiff competition in the squad, which included stars like Karim Benzema, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Gareth Bale.
Joselu's signing is valued for his knowledge of the club and his adaptation to the environment. His return to Real Madrid will allow him to easily integrate into the team's demands and the dressing room, where he already has connections with several teammates from both the club and the Spanish National Team.
Joselu's salary in his signing with Real Madrid has not been publicly disclosed. However, according to reports, there is a possibility that the player may have accepted a salary reduction to join the white club. According to the Salary Sport website, in his final year as a player for Espanyol, the Spanish international forward had a salary of 800 thousand EUR.
