The future of talented German midfielder Ilkay Gündogan remains uncertain after an outstanding season with Manchester City. While Barcelona considers him a top priority target, other teams such as Arsenal and City itself are also looking to snatch the player from the Catalan club.
After the conclusion of the season, it is evident that Manchester City has established itself as the best team in the world. Under the guidance of Pep Guardiola, the sky-blue team achieved their long-awaited first Champions League title in the club's history. Additionally, they secured a historic domestic double, the second in Guardiola's career.
Gündogan, signed by City in 2017 as Guardiola's first reinforcement, has become a true legend of the club at 32 years old. He is considered a star and the current team captain. However, with his contract expiring this season, the player is now a free agent and has not yet decided on his next destination.
According to Sport, Gündogan has expressed certain doubts about a potential move to Barcelona. Although the midfielder prioritizes joining the Catalan team, the economic difficulties faced by the Blaugrana entity create skepticism in the player. Given this situation, Gündogan is considering staying at Manchester City or accepting an offer from Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia.
Therefore, while waiting for Barcelona to stabilize their economic situation, there is a possibility that the Catalan club may arrive late in the race for Gündogan. Manchester City has already presented a contract extension offer, while Arabian football continues to work on convincing the German player.
