The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) remains steadfast in its desire to have Carlo Ancelotti, the current coach of Real Madrid, as the next coach of the Brazilian national team for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, as indicated by Ednaldo Rodrigues, president of the CBF.
Rodrigues expressed his conviction that Ancelotti's arrival would be a success, as the Italian has a special connection with the Brazilian National team. The president of the CBF emphasized that Ancelotti knows most of the players and deeply admires Brazilian football, which reinforces the Confederation's interest in hiring him.
The CBF hopes to obtain a clearer position from Ancelotti after the June FIFA international break in order to engage in discussions with greater conviction. However, Rodrigues admitted that the CBF also has a list of Brazilian candidates in case the Italian's arrival does not materialize.
It is important to note that the Brazilian national team has no official commitments until September, when the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup begin. Currently, interim coach Ramón Menezes has announced the squad list for the friendly matches next month against Guinea and Senegal.
The CBF seeks to secure a renowned coach for the long term and continues its interest in Ancelotti as the top candidate. However, they know they need to have more options in case of a possible refusal from Ancelotti. Among these options are Dorival Junior, Abel Ferreira, and Fernando Diniz.
