It was a few days ago when Valencia and Real Madrid faced each other at the Mestalla Stadium for matchday 35 of La Liga. While Valencia managed to secure the victory, the most significant news was not that, nor even Real Madrid's defeat, but the aggressions suffered by Vinicius Junior during the game.
It was when Vinicius approached to retrieve a ball that had gone out of bounds when some fans began shouting racist insults at him. As a result, the Brazilian refused to continue playing and pointed towards the fan who had insulted him.
Once the match ended, LaLiga issued a statement informing that they requested the footage of the incident to initiate an investigation and verify whether the actions constituted a hate crime, in order to take appropriate legal actions.
A few days later, the National Police managed to detain three Spanish individuals for having directed racist insults at Vinicius. However, they were later released under the accusation of committing a hate crime. The investigations are ongoing, and a trial will take place to determine guilt and, if applicable, the corresponding punishment.
The judge summoned Vinicius to testify on June 27th as the aggrieved party in relation to the racist insults he received from several fans. When Vinicius has to attend the hearing, it will be during his vacation period as La Liga ends on June 4th, and Real Madrid's preseason will not begin until early July.
