Manchester United in talks with Barcelona for star defender

According to information shared by journalist Florian Plettenberg on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Manchester United has actively inquired about the 24-year-old's transfer details, including the fee and contract particulars.

In a recent update, Plettenberg stated, "News on Ronald #Araujo: ManUtd have inquired about the 24 y/o! #MUFC informed about transfer fee and contract details. They received the same information as Bayern: The transfer package in winter would be over €80 million. And Araujo wants to stay at Barca in winter. But he remains on the list of ManUtd for summer. He remains the top target for Bayern as Tuchel loves the player."

Manchester United's interest in Araujo is prompted by their urgent need for defensive reinforcements. With uncertainties surrounding Raphael Varane's future at the club and Lisandro Martinez grappling with injury issues, bolstering the defensive lineup has become imperative for the Premier League outfit.

Manchester United ready for Araujo

According to Plettenberg, Manchester United has been apprised of the same valuation as Bayern Munich, who are purportedly leading the race for Araujo. Earlier reports indicated that the Barcelona defender's potential move during the winter transfer window would command a fee exceeding €80 million. Complicating matters further is Araujo's current reluctance to consider a move away from Barcelona. Araujo initially joined Barcelona in 2018 from Uruguayan side Boston River in a deal valued at approximately €1.7 million, inclusive of add-ons.
