Manchester City has found the ideal replacement for Ilkay Gündogan in their midfield. Mateo Kovacic has been chosen by coach Pep Guardiola to fill the void left by the German midfielder, who recently joined Barcelona after achieving the treble with the English club.
The club's management acted swiftly and reached an agreement with Chelsea to sign the talented Croatian midfielder. At 29 years of age, Kovacic becomes the new addition to the current European and Premier League champions for a fee of 25 million EUR.
Additionally, it is stipulated that an additional five million euros may be added in variables if Manchester City achieves titles in the upcoming season. Although Kovacic's salary with City has not been revealed yet, it is expected that he will receive an improved salary, with an estimated annual salary of around 10 million EUR.
After five seasons with the London-based club, Kovacic leaves Chelsea with an impressive record of four international titles, including the conquest of the Champions League in the 2020-2021 season. Furthermore, during his previous stint at Real Madrid, the Croatian midfielder amassed nine more titles, including three in the top European club competition.
With the addition of Kovacic, Manchester City aims to maintain their dominance in English football and continue to compete at the continental level. The talent, vision, and experience of the Croatian midfielder will be a valuable contribution to the City squad as they seek new successes in the upcoming season.
