Aston Villa beat Arsenal 1-0 on matchday 16 of the Premier League and Emiliano Martínez was one of the figures for his team to win and place third in the standings.

Unai Emery's team came into their own at Villa Park and defeated the Gunners in a very intense match. This was the 15th consecutive home win for the Draw team.

The game had a set time for each team. The first 45 minutes belonged to Aston Villa, with draw Martínez being largely responsible for his team going into halftime with the lead thanks to John McGinn's goal in the 29th minute.

The Argentine goalkeeper was a nightmare for his former team, containing several shots that he had against him and defusing the danger with his usual confidence. In the complement, the story was different. Arsenal came out with everything and until the 60th minute they suffocated the hosts, leaving them with no options to counterattack or create opportunities.

The end was surrounded by controversy. Kai Havertz established the agonizing tie, but the VAR played a trick on the visitors and left them empty-handed. Without a doubt, Arsenal deserved the tie due to the good second half they played, but they paid dearly for the passivity of the first half.

The next challenge for the Villians

This victory allows Aston Villa to reach third place with 35 points, one less than Arsenal and two behind Liverpool. On the next date, the Gunners will host Brighton and Villa will face Brentford as a visitor.
