Manchester City clinched the FA Cup title by defeating Manchester United 2-1 in an exciting final. The City secured their second trophy of the season thanks to an outstanding performance by Ilkay Gündogan, who scored both goals. It's worth noting that the German midfielder made history by scoring the fastest goal in an FA Cup final, finding the net just 13 seconds into the match.
Gündogan expressed, "I don't need days like these to appreciate and feel how special this club is," but he is still uncertain about his future with the team. On the other hand, Pep Guardiola confirmed that the club's management is working on renewing Gündogan's contract, indicating that he will stay with the team.
Several sources report that Barcelona intends to sign the midfielder after Sergio Busquets' retirement. Xavi Hernández has plans to form a midfield trio consisting of Frenkie De Jong, Pedri, and Gündogan. However, the player currently at the English club has not made a definitive decision and could still choose to stay in Manchester.
Gündogan joined Manchester City six seasons ago and has since become one of the most respected voices in the team, serving as one of the captains. Although his role this season has been more secondary, he maintains a good relationship with Pep Guardiola and remains a valued player at the club.
Although the German midfielder is uncertain about his club for the following season, after winning the Premier League title and the FA Cup, he aims to continue making history and secure the Champions League title next Saturday. It is the only trophy he has yet to win with Manchester City.
