Liverpool and Chelsea are clubs with very different realities this season. Jurgen Klopp's team are currently the best team in England and the only ones still competing in all tournaments this season. They are top of the Premier League standings, are in the round of 16 of the FA Cup and the UEFA Europa League and, obviously, also in the final of the Carabao Cup.

The latter is one of the few similarities they have with The Blues. Mauricio Pochettino's team spent a fortune on signings during the summer transfer window, but that has not yet yielded the expected results: they are not competing in international tournaments and in the English league they are far from the top.

But this Sunday both clubs will have the chance to win the first title of the season. At Wembley Stadium they will face each other for the final of the Carabao Cup, a tournament that Liverpool last won in 2022, while Chelsea have not been champions since 2015.

Aware of the importance of this match, coach Jurgen Klopp will field the best possible team. But he will have to solve a serious problem: the number of injured players he has in the squad. The first of them is goalkeeper Alisson, with a muscle injury suffered vs Brentford that puts him in doubt for Sunday. Trent Alexander-Arnold has a knee problem and is ruled out, as is Diogo Jota, who had to be replaced last weekend. The other players the manager will wait until the last minute for are Dominik Szoboszlai, Curtis Jones and Darwin Nunez.

The Blues are no better

Mauricio Pochettino has similar problems at Chelsea. Five players have already been ruled out for the Carabao Cup final: Reece James, Marc Cucurella, Wesley Fofana, Benoit Badiashile and Romeo Lavia. Also in doubt are goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, almost recovered from the knee injury he suffered in December, Carney Chukwuemeka, with an ankle problem and Thiago Silva, who picked up a minor injury before the game vs Manchester City.
