This Friday Tottenham have a mission: to get a win against Burnley in London to advance to the round of 32 of the 2024 FA Cup. For both teams it will be the debut in the tournament, and they will do everything possible to win, considering that if they draw they will have to play a replay, which would complicate the planning for the next few weeks.
The Spurs will have a disadvantage for this match: the large number of absentees in the squad has forced coach Ange Postecoglou to look for solutions and use players who have not had so much participation this season. Some of the injured players are Cristian Romero, James Maddison, Ivan Perisic and Alejo Veliz; while others are not available because they have joined their respective national teams to play the Asia Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations, such as Heung-Min Son, Pape Sarr and Yvess Bissouma.
Despite these problems, Tottenham proved during the first half to be better than their opponents and created several chances to score the opener. Richarlison had two chances, one ended with a deflected shot and the other with a save by Arijanet Muric. The Swiss goalkeeper also reacted impressively to a Brennan Johnson shot from outside the box.
However, they lacked precision in the final decisions to make the difference. When the forwards had chances, they missed, and that made the absence of the team's biggest star, Heung-Min Son, who may not return until February, depending on South Korea's performance in the Asia Cup, a major factor.
The draw is not a good result for Tottenham and that is why boss Ange Postecoglou will probably make variations during the second half. The substitutes are Fraser Forster, Ashley Phillips, Alfie Dorrington, Micky Van de Ven, Sessegnon, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Jammie Donley, Bryan Gil Salvatierra and Scarlett.
