Liverpool don't know whether to celebrate or be worried. They had lost Mohamed Salah a couple of weeks ago, when he left England to join the Egyptian national team for the Africa Cup of Nations. The expected return date was the second week of February, once the tournament is over, and so coach Jurgen Klopp was not planning to count on him for the upcoming Premier League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup matches.

However, things did not go as expected. After drawing in the opener against Mozambique, the winger was replaced during half-time in the second match against Ghana, which ended 2-2. This caused concern for everyone in Egypt and Liverpool. And then the news was not good, as a muscle injury was confirmed that will prevent him from playing the next matches of the tournament.

This Monday Egypt will play their third and final match in group B against Cape Verde, looking for a win to advance to the next stage. But 'Mo' will be absent, not only on the field, but in the country where the Africa Cup of Nations is taking place. Through a statement, the Egyptian FA announced: "Salah will now travel to England to receive treatment with the hope that he will join the Egyptian national team if it qualifies for the semi-finals."

This means that not only will the African team not be able to count on him this Monday, but they also already rule out that he will be able to recover in time to play the next two games of the tournament. Should they beat Cape Verde, Egypt will advance to the round of 16 and seek qualification to the quarterfinals. But they will have to do so without their biggest star, who in the best-case scenario will only be able to return on February 7.

Meanwhile, Liverpool will also have very important matches in the coming weeks. This Wednesday they visit Fulham in London for the second leg of the Carabao Cup semifinals, after winning 2-1 at Anfield Road. And on Sunday they will face Norwich City in the FA Cup round of 32.
