This Monday Liverpool got a key victory against Newcastle at Anfield Road that allowed them to increase the lead over their rivals in the Premier League standings. They shared first place with Aston Villa, both with 42 points, but had a game in hand. That's why it was essential for them to get a win against The Magpies.

And they did, although they had to work hard for it. Mohamed Salah was the main protagonist of the night: during the first half he had the chance to score the opener from the spot, but goalkeeper Martin Dubravka saved it. However, the Egyptian winger took his revenge and netted the first goal after the break. The joy was short-lived for The Reds, as moments later Alexander Isak scored on a leveller.

Then 'Mo' assisted Curtis Jones for the hosts' second goal and Cody Gakpo doubled the lead. Sven Botman again brought The Magpies closer on the scoreboard, but then came an unexpected situation. It was 40 minutes into the second half when Diogo Jota received the ball and entered the box. There, goalkeeper Dubravka tried to take the ball away from him but he was late and the striker dribbled past him, leaving the goal unprotected. However, Jota did not kick, but dropped and referee Anthony Taylor awarded a penalty.

While Salah scored the fourth goal from the spot and things ended well for Liverpool, Diogo Jota's decision did not go unnoticed. After the match, two former Premier League stars harshly criticized the Portuguese striker. Ian Wright opined, "Would rather go down for a penalty than put the ball in an empty net! Seen it all." And Alan Shearer went even further, deeming what the Liverpool player did: "f... embarrassing."

Who are they?

Ian Wright shone for Crystal Palace and Arsenal during the 80s and 90s, scoring 303 goals in 609 games. And Alan Shearer is the top scorer in Premier League history. He was a star for Southampton, Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United.
