Since last week the transfer window has been open in Europe's top leagues. Clubs have the opportunity to add some players in key positions that will help them raise the level of the team and compete in the most demanding stage of the season. And others have the chance to get rid of players who have not played much lately and whose salaries are high.

Manchester United intend to do both. They will begin a period of many changes since the arrival of new owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, and those changes will begin right now. Indeed, Sergio Reguilon and Donny Van de Beek have already left, while others could follow suit, such as Jadon Sancho, Anthony Martial and Facundo Pellistri.

But the Red Devils also need new faces. Injuries and the poor performances of some players have hampered coach Erik Ten Hag's work, and now they will have the opportunity to look for solutions. One of the sectors of the field in which they have had more problems is the defense. Lisandro Martinez, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw have spent more time injured than on the pitch.

That is why, according to Sport newspaper, they have targeted Andreas Christensen. The Danish defender has been at Barcelona since 2022 and has played 20 games this season, although he is not a priority for Xavi Hernandez. Considering this, Manchester United are willing to make an offer for him and bring him back to the Premier League. There he played between 2017 and 2022 at Chelsea, with whom he won the Champions League 2021.

They are not the only ones interested

In addition to Manchester United, another Premier League club targeted Christensen: Newcastle. The Magpies also need to improve their performance in the second half of the season and are willing to compete with the Red Devils for the Danish defender. The question is whether Barcelona will agree to let him go in the middle of a season in which they compete in La Liga, Copa del Rey and Champions League.
