This Tuesday Real Madrid started their way in the knock-out stages of the Champions League 2023/24. They visited RB Leipzig in Germany and got a key 1-0 victory thanks to a beautiful goal by Brahim Diaz at the beginning of the second half. They now have a small advantage that will help them to face the second leg, next Wednesday, March 6 at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium.

Real Madrid got a lead vs RB Leipzig, but received terrible news

As usual, after the match, some players and coaches of the teams held press conferences to answer questions from journalists. And there something curious happened: when Toni Kroos was leaving the press room he crossed paths with coach Carlo Ancelotti in the corridors of the stadium and there they had an unexpected conversation. "Have you said anything?" the manager asked him, to which the German midfielder replied, "I've messed up, I said I'm renewing until 2028."

This is a joke related to Kroos' situation. He is currently under contract for just a few more months, until June 30, and has not yet agreed to renew with Real Madrid. For months now newspapers, TV shows and social media have been full of speculation about his future, with rumors even talking about his possible retirement once the season ends.

That's why Kroos' conversation with Ancelotti, recorded in a video and then shared on social media, surprised everyone, even the Spanish side's players. A user on X wrote "I wish it wasn't a joke" and Vinicius Junior posted a comment saying: "I wish". Then Rodrygo Goes did the same and wrote: "Thank God" next to an emoji of a face with hearts in his eyes. Toni then shared both messages with emojis of laughter.

They don't have much time to rest

After the victory in Germany, Real Madrid returned to Spain to prepare for the next match. On Sunday, February 18, they will play against Rayo Vallecano for the 25th round of La Liga, a game that could be key for the tournament considering that Girona will face Athletic Bilbao, one of the best teams of the season, and could be far behind in the standings if they do not get a win.
