What is he waiting for?

This Thursday the soccer world received a huge news: Kylian Mbappé spoke with Nasser Al-Khelaifi, owner of Paris Saint-Germain, and confirmed that he will leave the club after the end of the 2023/24 season. That means he will not activate the automatic extension clause of his contract until 2025, nor will he accept the offer of a four-season renewal with a salary in excess of $100 million per year.

Unlike what happened in 2022, when in a similar situation 'Kiki' prioritized staying in France and earning a higher salary, this time his destination seems to be Real Madrid. The Spanish side have been interested in signing him for some time and now they need a top striker to replace Karim Benzema, so the opportunity is ideal.

However, for now Mbappé has not publicly announced his decision to leave PSG, even though everyone knows that is what will happen. Much less has he spoken about his future with Los Merengues. But that has an explanation.

According to journalist Pablo Polo, the delay in the official confirmation about Kylian's future is due to the fact that the UEFA Champions League is still being played and there both Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are competing. In fact, both teams achieved important victories against RB Leipzig and Real Sociedad, respectively, in the first leg of the round of 16. In the quarterfinals there will be a draw in which the duels will be defined and there both teams could face each other, which would be an awkward situation for Mbappé in case he has already announced that he will play in the Spanish side next season.

What did the coach say?

This Friday Luis Enrique gave a press conference in which he was asked about the situation of Kylian Mbappé, but his answer was evasive: "The atmosphere of the team is the normal one before a league match. Until the parties involved say nothing, I'm not going to say. When they speak, I will give you my opinion. I arrived here six months ago, and the club is above any player. The parties involved are the ones who have to talk".
