This season things have not gone well for Barcelona and it shows in the results. They lost the Spanish Super Cup final against Real Madrid earlier this year and just a few days later they were eliminated from the Copa del Rey in the quarterfinals by Athletic Bilbao. In addition, in La Liga they suffered several important defeats and are now far behind leaders Real Madrid.

That leaves them with only one tournament to aim for this season: the Champions League. There they had a good initial phase, in which they qualified first in their group and advanced to the round of 16, where their rivals are Napoli. But, regardless of what happens against the Italian side, Xavi Hernandez knows that it will be difficult for them to go far in the tournament and that is why he made a drastic decision a few weeks ago: he announced in a press conference that he will leave the club once the season is over, regardless of the results they obtain.

This has caused rumors to start circulating about his possible replacement. The first mentioned were former Barcelona players such as Rafael Marquez and Thiago Motta, but now they seem to be ruled out due to their lack of experience. Other more ambitious options are Hansi Flick, Jurgen Klopp, Thomas Tuchel, Julian Nageslmann and Roberto De Zerbi. Even Xabi Alonso, one of Florentino Perez's favorites for Real Madrid in the future, was mentioned.

However, now another top coach has been proposed and shocked everyone: José Mourinho. In an interview with Sport newspaper, Jose Peseiro, coach of the Nigerian National Team, was asked if Mou could be the coach of Barcelona and answered: "What's the problem? In the end it's coaching. I'm sure he would do well because of the demand he puts on everything and everyone around him day after day, every minute, to make a team to win. I would like Mourinho to coach Barça, he has to be in a team to win everything, because he is a winner".

He had problems before

While Mourinho worked at Barcelona in the 90s, as assistant to Bobby Robson and Louis Van Gaal, he went on to coach Real Madrid and starred in unforgettable duels against Los Blaugranas. There, he was accused by some of sending the team's players to beat Lionel Messi to prevent him from showing all his talent on the field. However, over the years he was always very complimentary of the Argentine forward.
