This Monday FIFA will present the awards to the most outstanding players and coaches in the world during 2023, both in men's and women's soccer teams. The ceremony will be held in London and there Lionel Messi will try to repeat what he did last year, when he won the main trophy thanks to his excellent performances with the Argentina National Team at the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

However, this time he will have a more difficult mission. While he performed well in 2023, it was not as good as the previous year. Leo was Ligue 1 champion with Paris Saint-Germain and then went to Major League Soccer to play for Inter Miami. There he needed just one month to lead the team to its first-ever Leagues Cup title, but then suffered an injury that prevented him from helping the Herons qualify for the Eastern Conference playoffs.
But another finalist fared better last year: Erling Haaland. The Norwegian striker shone with Manchester City and was a key part of the team in winning the Treble, that is, the three most important titles of the season (Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League). In addition, during 2023 he was one of the top scorers in the world, with 50 goals in 60 games. And the third finalist is Kylian Mbappé, who also showed a great level with Paris Saint-Germain and the France National Team.
The other awards to be presented are the best coach (Pep Guardiola, Luciano Spalletti or Simone Inzaghi) and the best goalkeeper (Yassine Bounou, Thibaut Cortois or Ederson). And the same goes for women's soccer: the finalists for best player are Aitana Bonmatí, Linda Caicedo and Jennifer Hermoso; best coach Jonatan Giraldez, Emma Hayes and Sarina Wiegman; and best goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold, Catalina Coll and Mary Earps.

Unlike the Ballon d'Or, in which only journalists vote, The Best awards are chosen by many more people: the skippers and coaches of the 211 teams in the world that are recognized by FIFA, as well as journalists and fans from all continents, vote through a website.
