The England national team is through to the knockout stages of the EUROS after finishing first in their group with five points. Despite the unconvincing results, England remains one of the favorites to win this competition this summer, but now one of their key players had to leave the national team for an emergency in the UK. The FA revealed that Phil Foden left the England camp today, and his return is unknown while the knockouts begin in a few days, which also worried some Manchester City fans and perhaps Pep Guardiola. The FA wrote a statement saying, "Phil Foden has temporarily left the England camp and returned to the UK for a pressing family matter.” It turns out it was nothing to worry about, as reports from England suggest that Foden is back home to be present for the birth of his third child. The Man City star is expected to be back with the England squad at Euro 2024 by Sunday.
Foden started in all three of the matches for England in the EUROS in Group C. England finished top of the group with five points. England defeated Serbia 1-0 in the first match of their EUROS campaign. They drew 1-1 against Denmark in their second match of the group stage. They drew 0-0 against Slovenia in their last match of the group stage.
Foden played the full match against Serbia as a left winger, but in the previous two matches in the EUROS, he was subbed off the field by Gareth Southgate. He played 69 minutes against Denmark and played 89 minutes against Slovenia. English fans want Foden not to play as a left winger and to play more centrally like how he does at Manchester City. England's next match is in the Round of 16 this Sunday, with an opponent yet to be determined.
