Lionel Messi and the Argentina national team are among the favorites to win the Copa America USA 2024. That is not a surprise to many football fans since they are the current holders of the Copa America after winning it in 2021. They are also the current World Champions after winning the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. With these two successful tournaments, the Argentina team has had a unique superstition that has led to work for them in these big tournaments. Fans noticed that the Argentina Football Association president, Claudio Tapia, had a Chucky doll in the background of a picture of him with a few of the Argentina staff at a hotel a few weeks ago on Instagram. The horror character doll has been with the Argentina team since the 2021 Copa America, which they won after beating Brazil 1-0. One of the Argentina kit men, Juan Cruz, brought the Chucky doll to the Argentina dressing room after his son gave it to him as good luck during the 2021 Copa America. His son is nicknamed Chucky.

Some members of the Argentina staff celebrated the 2021 Copa America and the 2022 World Cup by tattooing Chucky's face since the evil character is a good luck charm for the team. Now, with the doll present with the Argentina squad during the Copa America 2024, the team expects to have luck this summer by winning the trophy again.

Argentina players have had another superstition since the 2021 Copa America: eating caramel candy before kickoff. Certain squad members, Rodrigo De Paul, Leonardo Paredes, and Alejandro Gomez, ate these sweets before the quarterfinals of the 2021 Copa America. A few players were seen eating sweets before the match against Canada last week in the 2024 Copa America opener.
