Lionel Messi's journey in Copa America is still going on as they qualified for the quarter-finals of the competition. Argentina and Messi will be playing against Ecuador in the quarterfinal this Thursday at the NRG Stadium. While Messi focuses on trying to prepare for the match against Ecuador and being two games away from reaching another final in a major tournament, the MLS will give him a new challenge this summer that he did not do last summer when he first arrived at the MLS and to Inter Miami. Lionel Messi, along with Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba, is called up to the MLS All-Stars this summer. That will take place on July 24th at the Columbus Crew stadium. They will be playing against the Liga MX All-Stars this summer, with the Argentine icon expected to start the game. This is ten days after the Copa America final at the Hard Rock Stadium, where many fans expect Messi and Argentina to play in it. The Argentine will play his first MLS All-Star game of his career.
Messi is expected to play with Inter Miami in July. 20th against the Chicago Fire at the Chase Stadium. After the MLS All-Star match, Messi will not be playing in the MLS because he will play in the Leagues Cup with Inter Miami. Messi is familiar with this tournament as it was the first one he played in the United States, and he won it with Inter Miami, making it the first trophy in the MLS franchises' history.
Inter Miami will first play against Club Puebla in the Leagues Cup this summer on July 27th. Then, they will play against Tigres UNAL on August 3rd. These two games are from Group 3 in the East Region.
Inter Miami was in South Group 3 of the Leagues Cup last year, which was the first time the tournament featured all of the MLS teams and all of the Liga MX teams. Messi scored on his debut match with Inter Miami when he scored in the 2-1 win against Cruz Azul. From there, they topped the group by beating Atlanta United 4-0 with a brace by Messi. Messi scored the most goals in the tournament with ten goals. In the final, Miami and Nashville drew 1-1, and Messi's team won 10-9 on penalties.
