Barcelona needed a win this Sunday against Real Betis in order not to be too far away from the top of the La Liga standings. Some bad results lately made Real Madrid and Girona take an important advantage over them, but they are not giving up yet and want to keep competing in the tournament. However, Real Madrid's victory against Almeria forced Los Blaugranas to do the same at the Benito Villamarin stadium.

Things started very well for them, as during the first half they were far superior to their rivals. They controlled the ball and had the patience and imagination to create several chances to score. The opener came after 21 minutes, when Ferran Torres received an assist from Pedri and shot softly. And at the start of the second half the former Manchester City winger doubled the lead, this time after a floated cross from Lamine Yamal.

Everything seemed to be going perfectly for Los Blaugranas, until Isco Alarcón appeared. The Spanish midfielder is showing a similar level to the one he had with Real Madrid for years and this Sunday he shone again: in just three minutes he netted twice for Real Betis to level the score 2-2.

The look on boss Xavi Hernandez's face at that moment showed the concern that everyone in Barcelona had. A match they were controlling with ease suddenly became very difficult. That's why, seeing that the team did not react to those two blows, the manager made a key decision: he included Joao Felix to replace Pau Cubarsi. And the Portuguese forward worked his magic: after 45 minutes he received a pass from Ferrán Torres and scored a beautiful goal with his right foot. Moments later Torres completed his hat-trick with another nice shot.

They are still far away

Despite the win, Barcelona are 7 points off the top of the La Liga standings. And that distance can be bigger if Girona beat Sevilla this Sunday. Los Blaugranas' next match will be in the quarterfinals of the Copa del Rey, on Wednesday against Athletic Bilbao at the Nuevo San Mames stadium.
