Lionel Messi has achieved many achievements in football, such as Champions League trophies, La Liga titles, the Copa America, the gold medal for the Summer Olympics, and the FIFA World Cup. Despite winning many important trophies over the years of his career, he still wished to play in a certain competition he never got the chance to play in and would technically never play in since he is at Inter Miami and Messi plans for the MLS club being the last team of his career. Reports in Argentina suggest that David Beckham and the other co-owner of Inter Miami, Jorge Mas, revealed that they are doing everything possible so that Conmebol invites them to play in the Copa Libertadores. They want to fulfill Messi's dream of playing in the most prestigious cup on the continent. Messi played at FC Barcelona for most of his career, and he was very young when he moved to Spain from Argentina at the Newell's Old Boys.
Jorge Mas told Ole Sports Summit, "There will always be talk of an era of before and after Messi in the development of football in the United States, it is the largest market in the world but that is in his football childhood. But I think we are going to continue striving to have a team, a squad that can compete in international tournaments. We aspire one day to participate in the Libertadores."
Mas knows that Messi has never played in the tournament before, which is equivalent to the Champions League, but in South America. Mas said, "I think it's an important goal, it's a tournament that Leo has never participated in. We will also want to raise the league to have participation and we would love to see if we are given the opportunity, the possibility of participating in the Club World Cup next year, and obviously aspire in four years for 2029, but we aspire to a lot."
Messi and Inter Miami had the opportunity to qualify for the FIFA Club World Cup next year, but they had to win the CONCACAF Champions Cup this year. They were eliminated in the quarterfinals by Monterrey from Mexico. There is one spot left for an MLS club, which Inter Miami could take as the host team of the tournament if invited.
