In the summer of 2022 Manchester City paid $65 million to Borussia Dortmund to sign Erling Haaland and he quickly proved to be worth much more. In his first season in England he scored 52 goals in 53 games and led the team to the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League titles, something they had never achieved in their history.

This made the Norwegian striker one of the biggest stars in the world, on par with Paris Saint-Germain's Kylian Mbappé and Real Madrid's Vinicius Junior. However, he is apparently still not 100% satisfied and so reports indicate that he is considering leaving the English side and joining another European giant, perhaps Real Madrid. In fact, Spanish media mention him as Los Merengues' plan B, in case Mbappé finally does not leave France this summer.

According to AS, the reason for Haaland's discontent is the lack of recognition he has received over the last year despite shining with The Citizens and breaking many goal records. He had an almost perfect performance and, even so, he did not receive any of the most important soccer awards: in both the Ballon d'Or and The Best, he finished second in the voting behind Lionel Messi.

At the time, his father Alfie said: "It's fair (for Messi to win), because it was through a voting system. So it's fair, yes, but it's going to be difficult to have a season like Erling's again, with the team winning everything and setting all the records. All the luck in the world to whoever tries to break that record. He was also asked if Erling could play for Real Madrid and replied: "Of course... for anyone".

How much is he worth?

Erling Haaland is one of the best strikers in the world and that, logically, means he is one of the most expensive as well. However, Manchester City made a curious deal for him. According to reports, his exit clause has different values depending on his destination. If he wants to go to another Premier League club, he will need more than $200 million, but if it is to any other team, the clause will be worth half that.
