Paris Saint-Germain will have a difficult mission in the next transfer window: replace Kylian Mbappé. The striker had a meeting this week with the club's owner, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, and announced his decision not to activate the automatic extension clause until 2025 or accept the offer of renewal for four more seasons. That means that, once the current season ends, he will become a free agent and can leave for any other club he wishes.

How Mbappé's departure from PSG could affect Barcelona next summer

Without Mbappé, PSG will need several top players who can deal with the responsibility of leading the team in Ligue 1 and the Champions League. That is why the chiefs are rumored to be considering bids for stars like Liverpool's Mohamed Salah, Manchester City's Bernardo Silva and AC Milan's Rafael Leao.

But coach Luis Enrique also wants to add players in other sectors of the field, and one of his priorities is midfield. There he has one obsession: Gavi. The Barcelona midfielder was a key player for the coach in the Spanish National Team and together they participated in the Qatar 2022 World Cup, where they were eliminated in the round of 16 by Morocco.

However, Los Blaugranas consider Gavi too important a player to let go and will do everything possible to keep him. Should they refuse to negotiate his sale, Barcelona will leave Paris Saint-Germain only one alternative: to pay the exit clause. But that seems almost impossible, considering the figure the Spaniards set in the last contract renewal: €1 billion (about $1076 million).

He is not the only player who could leave

Besides Gavi, other Barcelona players were targeted by important clubs in Europe. One of them is Frenkie De Jong, who has not yet accepted the renewal offer and rumors indicate that Manchester United and Tottenham are interested in him. The other is Raphinha, also targeted by Premier League and Saudi Arabian clubs.
