How Brazil's elimination from the Olympic Games will benefit Real Madrid?

Last Sunday, Brazil's U-23 team lost 1-0 against Argentina in the decisive match of the South American pre-Olympic tournament held in Venezuela, leaving them with no chance of qualifying for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Menezes' team needed at least a draw to reach their goal, but they were outplayed by the world champions, who, thanks to a goal by Luciano Gondou, won the match and secured their place in Paris, along with Paraguay.

For Brazil it was a hard blow. They were the two-time champions of the Olympic Games, having won their first gold medals in soccer in the last two editions: the first was at home, in Rio de Janeiro 2016, when Neymar Junior led the team. And the next was in Tokyo 2021, with stars like Richarlison, Dani Alves, Bruno Guimaraes and Antony.

This time the squad had important players like John Kennedy, Fluminense star, and Endrick. The latter is one of the most promising young players in the world. At just 17 years old, he shines in the Brazilian league with Palmeiras and has already made his debut with the National Team, being the youngest to do so in the last 30 years.

That is why Real Madrid took notice of him some time ago and agreed to buy him for a fortune: more than $75 million. However, FIFA rules prohibit clubs from making international transfers of players under the age of 18, so the striker will only be able to join Los Merengues on July 21, once his birthday arrives.

They avoided a problem

The Paris 2024 Olympic Games will begin on July 26 and end on August 11. That means that the soccer players called up to their respective national teams will be absent from their clubs during the pre-season and, perhaps, the first matches of the 2024/25 season. That's why Real Madrid will surely have celebrated the defeat of Brazil's national team in the pre-Olympic tournament, as now they won't have to wait for Endrick to return from Paris to join the squad's training sessions.
