2023 will be remembered by Manchester City fans as the best year in the club's history. During the first half of the year they won the three most important titles of the 2022/23 season (Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League, the latter for the first time). And in the second semester they added two more titles, the European Super Cup against Sevilla and the Club World Cup. That means they are the reigning champions of 5 tournaments simultaneously.
However, they are not satisfied with this and now they have a new goal: to improve their performances in the Premier League and compete for the title again. At the moment they are in fifth place in the standings with 34 points, 8 points behind leaders Liverpool. But the Citizens have two games in hand on them and are confident that they can get closer.
The first opportunity will be this Wednesday at Goodison Park against Everton. The Citizens arrive after a long journey from Saudi Arabia, but their opponents have also struggled, losing 2-1 to Tottenham in London last Saturday.
Coach Pep Guardiola knows that this Wednesday's game is very important and therefore decided that most of the squad's stars will be part of the starting lineup. The exceptions are Erling Haaland, Kevin De Bruyne and Jeremy Doku, who are recovering from physical problems. The XI will be: Ederson; Kyle Walker, John Stones, Manuel Akanji, Nathan Ake; Matheus Nunes, Rodri, Bernardo Silva; Phil Foden, Julian Alvarez, Jack Grealish. In addition, the substitutes will be Stefan Ortega, Rico Lewis, Josko Gvardiol, Kalvin Phillips, Sergio Gomez, Micah Hamilton, Oscar Bobb, Mahamadou Susoho and Mateo Kovacic.
After the FA penalized Everton with a 10-point deduction, they were left in a difficult situation in the Premier League. Despite several victories in recent weeks, they are only one point above the relegation zone. That's why they need to beat Manchester City this Wednesday. Coach Sean Dyche chose this XI: Jordan Pickford; Nathan Patterson, James Tarkowski, Jarrad Branthwaite, Vitaliy Mykolenko, Andre Gomes, Amadou Mvom Onana, Jack Harrison, James Garner, Dwight McNeil; Beto.
