Cristiano Ronaldo proves every week that, at 38, he is still one of the best strikers in the world. He is the star of the Saudi Arabian Pro League and with his goals he leads Al-Nassr, who are in second place in the standings with 43 points, 7 points behind leaders Al-Hilal.

This Tuesday they got a key victory against one of the strongest rivals in the tournament: Karim Benzema's Al-Ittihad. Things had not started well for CR7, as his team were trailing 1-0 in the first minutes, but he scored the equaliser from the spot after a foul on Ali Al-Oujami. They then completed the comeback through Anderson Talisca, but Al-Ittihad netted the leveller before the break. However, in the second half Cristiano again scored a penalty and then Sadio Mane netted twice for 5-2.

With his two goals, Ronaldo not only remains the top scorer in the Pro League with 19 goals in 18 games (3 more than Al-Hilal's Aleksandar Mitrovic), but also broke a record held by Kylian Mbappé and Harry Kane.

The Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich strikers were the top scorers in the world in 2023 with 52 goals, but they had a problem: their teams will not play any more official matches this year, so they could be overtaken by their competitors. They are Cristiano Ronaldo and Erling Haaland of Al-Nassr and Manchester City, respectively, who still have a few more games in 2023. And CR7 did it this week, as his two goals vs Al-Ittihad took his tally to 53 and made him the new leader of the ranking.

What's next for them?

Al-Nassr will have one more match before the end of the year: it will be on Saturday, December 30 against Al Taawon. And Manchester City will have two games: this Wednesday vs Everton and next Saturday against Sheffield United. The problem for Erling Haaland is that he has been injured for the last few weeks and his presence on the field is in doubt, so he might not be able to compete with CR7.
