What did he say?

This Thursday newspapers, TV shows and social media finally broke the news that had been rumored for months: Kylian Mbappé will leave Paris Saint-Germain once the 2023/24 season ends. He had the power to automatically extend his contract until June 30, 2025 and had also received a four-year renewal offer with a salary in excess of $100 million per season, but prioritized other things.

The real reason why Mbappé has not yet announced he is leaving for Real Madrid

According to reports, 'Kiki' met with PSG owner Nasser Al-Khelaifi and informed him of his decision to leave France next summer. This will bring to an end a 7-year spell at the club, since his arrival from AS Monaco in 2017. In that time, he played 290 games, scored 243 goals, provided 105 assists and won 14 titles.

However, he never achieved the main objective: the Champions League. He came very close to the title in 2020, when PSG lost the final of the tournament against Bayern Munich 1-0 by Kingsley Coman's goal, but then they could never get that far again. And this season will be their last chance: for now they are in the round of 16, where they took a step forward with a 2-0 win vs Real Sociedad in the first leg.

The news of Mbappé's departure could be a blow to the team's mood, which is why it was one of the main topics in the press conference given by coach Luis Enrique this Friday, before the match vs Nantes in Ligue 1. "The team's atmosphere is the normal one before a league match," the Spanish manager began by saying. But then, at the insistence of reporters, he added: "Until the parties involved say nothing, I'm not going to say. When they speak, I will give you my opinion. I arrived here six months ago, and the club is above any player. The parties involved are the ones who have to speak".

Where will Kylian play?

With his departure from PSG now confirmed, but not yet announced, Kylian Mbappé must decide where he will go. While several Premier League clubs are interested in him, especially Liverpool, his future will surely be in Spain. Reports claim that in the near future he will reach an agreement with Real Madrid and join Carlo Ancelotti's team after the end of this season.
