Chelsea and Barcelona have something in common this season: both teams prepared to compete at the top of their respective leagues and had the expectation of improving their performances from the previous year, but they were never able to show their best version and obtained disappointing results. This caused criticism of the coaches, especially Xavi Hernandez, who announced that he will not continue after this summer.

Real Madrid's Bellingham could be in big trouble for insulting a rival player

The Catalan side had been champions of La Liga 2022/23 and expected at least to repeat that performance, but now they are far behind Real Madrid and Girona in the standings. The only goal they have left is the Champions League, but they seem to be far behind other giants of Europe. And Chelsea are even worse: 11th in the Premier League and far from the qualification zone for international tournaments.

Needing to improve their level for next season, both clubs are likely to look for players in the summer transfer window. And there they could find a way to help each other. According to Sport, the Blues are willing to pay more than $100 million for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie De Jong, who is apparently unhappy there.

But it will not be an easy negotiation, as other important teams in Europe also want to sign the Dutch player. One of them are Manchester United, who were already close to having him a little more than a year ago and have a seduction weapon for Frenkie: the chance to meet again with Erik Ten Hag, who was his coach at Ajax. In addition, Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in him.

Can they make an exchange?

Chelsea's advantage over the other clubs that want Frenkie De Jong is that they have something that could interest Barcelona. The Sport newspaper claims that Enzo Fernandez is aiming to join the Catalan side in the future, despite having a contract with The Blues until 2032. Should Los Blaugranas consider the Argentine midfielder as an interesting option, they may be able to negotiate an exchange with De Jong that would satisfy all parties.
