Lionel Messi had a difficult preseason with Inter Miami. The team did not show their best version and that was demonstrated by the results: they lost three games, drew three and only won one, against an all-star team of the Hong Kong league. Precisely that was the only game in the whole preseason that Leo did not play even one minute, so after the final whistle the fans showed their disappointment with chants like "Where is Messi?" and "Refund".

But things did not end there. In the following days the organizers of the event had to refund half the value of the tickets to the fans who had attended, while the authorities of the city of Hangzhou suspended the match that Argentina was going to play against Nigeria during the international break in March. This put at risk the tour of China that the world champions were going to make, and they are now analyzing the possibility of moving to the United States.

A few weeks later, a video recorded by Lionel Messi was released in which he explains what really happened in that friendly match. "I heard that they said I didn't want to play because of political issues and many of those things that have nothing to do with it. If that had been the case, I wouldn't have traveled to Japan and I wouldn't have gone to China like I did so many other times," he began.

And then he explained: "It is as simple as I said in the press conference I did: I had an inflammation in my adductor and I could not participate. In the first game I played in Arabia I felt it and in the second game I tried to play for a while but it got worse. I tried the day before to train and make an effort because of all the people there. I did what I could. I could not play. I felt discomfort and there was a risk of it getting worse".

Now he is better

After missing the match in Hong Kong, Lionel Messi played some minutes in Japan against Vissel Kobe and last week he played against Newell's Old Boys. He now appears to be fully recovered and coach Gerardo Martino will include him in the starting lineup for Wednesday's Major League Soccer opener against Real Salt Lake at DRV PNK Stadium.
