Barcelona have had financial problems over the last few years that have prevented them from building top level teams to compete with Real Madrid, Manchester City or Bayern Munich for the main titles in Europe. For that reason they had to let go stars such as Lionel Messi (whom they were also unable to bring back last summer, despite Leo's intention), Luis Suarez and Samuel Umtiti.

This situation started to improve lately. The arrival of Joan Laporta as president brought order to the club and little by little they are recovering. However, they still have financial fair-play limitations that prevent them from signing stars if they do not sell players for a lot of money first. In fact, the only reason they were able to add Vitor Roque in this transfer window is because of Gavi's injury, which allowed them an exception to those financial rules.

Knowing this situation, other clubs may take advantage and try to sign players from Barcelona for less money than they are worth. According to Sky Sports, Bayern Munich targeted Ronald Araujo, a Uruguayan defender who has been a key player for coach Xavi Hernandez in recent seasons.

Reports indicate that boss Thomas Tuchel insists the club's chiefs to sign the 24-year-old player, as he considers him the only one capable of solving the Bavarian team's defensive problems. Moreover, his youth is an important factor, as he would be a long-term solution. This is not the first time Tuchel has targeted Araujo: when he was Chelsea's coach, he also tried to sign him, although at that time the negotiations did not succeed.

What will Los Blaugranas do?

According to Sport, Barcelona have no intention of letting Ronald Araujo go. In fact, they plan to offer him a contract renewal to improve his salary, which is far from that of other stars of the squad. The good news for the Catalan side is that he has an exit clause of $1 billion, a figure impossible for any club to pay.
