After an unforgettable 2023, in which they won the Leagues Cup, their first title in 5 years of existence, Inter Miami are preparing to face a year that will be even more demanding than the previous one. They will have three competitions during 2024: they will defend the Leagues Cup title, they will try to improve their performance in Major League Soccer and for the first time they will play the most important tournament in North and Central America, the CONCACAF Champions League.

That is why coach Gerardo Martino and the club's chiefs know that it will be necessary to raise the team's level by hiring quality players. The first one confirmed is Luis Suarez, who left Gremio of Brazil and was officially announced a few days ago. But the Uruguayan striker will not be the only one. The manager is looking for at least one more defender and one more midfielder, and Argentine Marcos Rojo and Cristian Medina have been mentioned as options, although negotiations did not go well.

However, some players have also left. The first of these was Josef Martinez, who was on loan from Atlanta United and had to leave to free up one of the three available spots for designated players and make the arrival of Suarez possible. Dixon Arroyo will not remain with The Herons either and this week the third departure was confirmed: Kamal Miller.

The Canadian defender was a key player for the team during 2023, but will be transferred to Portland Timbers in exchange for $625,000, which could increase to $775,000 if certain objectives are met. This unexpected departure has an explanation: Inter Miami needed to get rid of foreign players in order to sign others in their place.

What's next for them?

The Herons will start preseason next week and then begin a tour of friendly matches in El Salvador, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong and Japan. They will then return to Miami and prepare for the start of MLS (February 21) and their CONCACAF Champions League debut (March 5).
