Since last year, Saudi Arabia's Pro League has tempted many top players to leave Europe and join the country's top clubs. Cristiano Ronaldo started the journey when he accepted Al-Nassr's $200 million-plus per year offer, and many others have followed suit in last summer's transfer window.

One of the teams that invested the most money in signing stars were Al-Hilal. They paid almost $100 million to Paris Saint-Germain to bring Neymar to the team, and surrounded him with other top players such as Bono, Kalidou Koulibaly, Ruben Neves, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Michael, Malcom and Aleksandar Mitrovic. Although 'Ney' was barely able to play a few games before suffering a serious knee injury, the rest of the signings yielded the expected results and that is why Jorge Jesus' team are leading the Pro League standings with 7 points ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo's Al-Nassr.

However, they are not satisfied with that and that is why they have decided to sign another player who shone in Europe: Renan Lodi. The Brazilian left-back played in Atlético Madrid 118 games between 2019 and 2022, before being transferred to Nottingham Forest and then to Olympique Marseille. On the French side he had good performances in the 23 games he played this season and now he will have the chance to earn big money in Saudi Arabia.

According to RMC Sports, Olympique Marseille and Al-Hilal have reached an agreement for the loan of Lodi, who will join the Pro League team on a three-and-a-half-year contract with a buyout clause that will depend on the achievement of certain objectives, for more than $20 million.

Some are not satisfied

As Pro League clubs continue to sign top players, some stars who arrived last summer in Saudi Arabia are considering leaving earlier than planned. Karim Benzema, Roberto Firmino and Jordan Henderson are reportedly among them. The main reasons are the low fan interest in the tournament (average stadium attendance is 2,000) and the differences in lifestyle compared to Europe.
