At 38 years old, Cristiano Ronaldo is showing performances comparable to those he had in his best periods with Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus. During 2023 he was the world's top scorer with 54 goals, helping Al-Nassr to the Arab Club Champions Cup title and the Portugal national team to win its group in the Euro 2024 qualifiers.
In fact, he surpassed other top players, much younger than him, who had the same goal. Left behind were Bayern Munich's Harry Kane, Manchester City's Erling Haaland and Paris Saint-Germain's Kylian Mbappé. All of them were also aiming to lead last year's goal scoring ranking, but they were unable to compete with the Portuguese striker.
This, moreover, earned CR7 a new award. On January 19, the Dubai Globe Soccer Awards ceremony will be held at the Atlantis Hotel in Dubai. Although the event is still two weeks away, it is already known that the Al-Nassr player will win one of the awards: the Maradona Trophy, awarded to the best goal scorer of the year. He won it thanks to his 54 goals, which beat Mbappé and Kane's 52 and Haaland's 50.
But that's likely not the only award Cristiano will receive. In addition to the recognition for the impressive number of goals he scored, he is also a finalist in three other categories: fans' favorite player, best player in the East and best player of the year 2023.
The Dubai Globe Soccer Awards are voted on by fans around the world. In the first round of voting, more than 20 million people chose their favorite players, and in the second round, more than 50 million additional votes were cast. This means that the winners in each of the categories are chosen by the decision of 70 million fans around the world.
