In 2019 Atlético Madrid paid more than $120 million to Benfica to buy Joao Felix. The Portuguese forward was just a teenager, but he had already shown excellent performances and everyone believed that in a short time he was going to become one of the biggest stars in the world. However, things did not turn out as expected.

Although he proved to be a first class and very talented player, he never fully adapted to Los Colchoneros' style, which is characterized by a defensive game, a lot of tactical discipline and fast counterattacks. This caused him to gradually lose prominence in the team, while his relationship with coach Diego Simeone deteriorated.

That is why he was loaned to Chelsea in January and then to Barcelona. In the Catalan side Joao seems to have found his place in the world, as the team's style is much more similar to his characteristics. He has acknowledged on several occasions that he feels more comfortable there than at his parent club, but those words were not well received in Madrid.

And all this got worse last weekend, when Barcelona faced Atlético Madrid in Montjuic and Felix netted the winning goal for Los Blaugranas. Unlike what usually happens when a player scores a goal for a club he played for, the Portuguese forward did not contain his happiness and celebrated, something that could be considered disrespectful.

They didn't like it

Many Atlético Madrid fans are disappointed with Joao Felix. And many others are angry. That is what seems to have happened with the Union Internacional de Peñas de Atlético Madrid, a group of fans that live in different countries around the world, who wrote a message in X harshly criticizing the Barcelona forward: “If you wanted to offend, you have not done it. It is not who wants to offend, but who can. If it was a farewell, have a nice day. You will join that select group of traitors that form Hugo Sanchez, Courtois and some more. And if it's because you can't do any more, you've got enough already”. Joao should return to Atlético next summer, but it seems unlikely that this will happen.
