Luka Modric has been one of Real Madrid's most important players in the last decade. Since his arrival in 2012 from Tottenham, he gradually gained prominence until he became a key player in the team. There he won 23 titles, including 5 Champions League titles, and was voted best player in the world in 2018.
However, this season he lost place in the consideration of coach Carlo Ancelotti, who has preferred other younger players such as Federico Valverde, Aurélien Tchouaméni, Eduardo Camavinga and Jude Bellingham. That's why in the last 3 games he barely played 30 minutes, in the second half against Napoli in Champions League.
This Friday Ancelotti gave a press conference before this Saturday's match against Osasuna at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium and was asked about Luka's situation. His response was: "I talk to Modric every day because I see him every day. Obviously he is not happy about not playing, because he has played all his life. But he is still excited to bring something to the team. What Modric brings to the dressing room no one else can bring, he has an impressive charisma in the dressing room. For the teammates he is fundamental and of course when he doesn't play it affects Modric and those who love Modric, also the fans, teammates, coach... who love him very much".
He then assured that "he will not leave in January", dismissing rumors of a possible departure of the Croatian player in the next transfer window, despite the fact that Lionel Messi's Inter Miami was mentioned as his possible destination.
Carlo Ancelotti also spoke about Osasuna, Real Madrid's next opponents in La Liga, and said: "We have to play fast soccer, because they are a team that defend very well. In their last two visits to Madrid we have not won. They defend well and will try to attack us when we are out of position".
