The transfer window closed on Friday in Europe's top leagues and clubs made their final moves of the summer. However, some teams are not yet calm and fear that some of their players could leave in the coming weeks. There is a reason for this: in Saudi Arabia there is still time until September 20 to sign players, and the Pro League clubs are still keen to continue strengthening.
Liverpool are the most concerned at the moment. For weeks now Mohamed Salah has been in the media and social networks because of Al-Ittihad's interest in signing him to be the team's star player alongside Karim Benzema. And, according to rumors, the winger is interested in moving to Saudi Arabia as well.
However, The Reds refuse to lose their top star and that is why they rejected the nearly $215 million offer they received. It was a risky decision, as if they had accepted it they still had time to sign another forward to replace Salah. But now that the transfer window has closed in England, they will no longer be able to do so.
According to The Sun, in the coming days Al-Ittihad will try again: they are preparing a $250 million bid to make it happen. Should they do so, it would be the most expensive transfer in soccer history, surpassing Paris Saint-Germain's purchase of Neymar from Barcelona in 2017.
While all this is going on, Mohamed Salah was harshly criticized by Graeme Souness. The former Scottish player wrote a column in The Daily Mail and said: “Make no mistake, Salah is flirting with the Saudis. Neither he nor one of his representatives has come out and categorically said, ‘We do not want to go to Saudi Arabia at this time’. If he wanted to stay, someone could have issued a statement to that effect. He is toying with the idea, at the very least, and I think, deep down, he will feel he should go."
