Last Sunday Barcelona got an important win against Athletic Bilbao at the Estadio Olimpico Lluis Companys in Montjuic. Those three points allowed them to close the gap with the leaders in the standings, Real Madrid. Los Merengues drew 1-1 against Sevilla and reached 25 points, as did Girona, who beat Almeria 5-2. With the win, Los Blaugranas are in third place with 24 points.
Sunday's hero was Marc Guiu. The striker made his debut after 78 minutes, when Xavi Hernandez decided to include him as a replacement for Fermin Lopez. And, as if it were a Hollywood movie, in his first intervention he received an assist from Joao Felix and scored the opener with a soft right-footed shot.
From then on, fans around the world began to wonder who the 17-year-old player was. This was demonstrated on social media: in just a few hours, Marc went from having 45,000 followers on his Instagram account, to more than 600,000. But it also aroused curiosity to know more about Guiu, including his salary in Barcelona.
According to Sport newspaper, the striker has a contract with the Catalan club until June 30, 2025. And his salary is $63,000 gross per year. This makes him one of the cheapest players in the squad, as he is far from the fortune earned by the stars. Robert Lewandowski, who plays in the same position as Guiu, has a salary of more than $10 million per season.
Barcelona coach found an unexpected solution with Marc Guiu, as he did not have a player with those characteristics in the squad who could replace Robert Lewandowski. But now he will have a problem: the young striker has been called up to Spain's U-17 national team. From Monday 30 he will leave Barcelona to join the squad that will play the World Cup in Indonesia between November 10 and December 2.
